Winter 2012: Keeping warm

It hasn’t gone by unnoticed: the days are becoming shorter and it seems to be getting colder every single day. Winter is approaching.

I like winter. What I like most about winter is the idea of the winter season. Staying inside with the heater on, a cup of hot cocoa clasped in your hands and ready to relax with a nice book…
That’s great and all… but how do you protect yourself when it’s time to step outside of the house?

Scarves. I have been obsessing lately over scarves. And, even though I’m not a pro, I like knitting and crocheting scarves. They’re relatively easy to make and it’s a very affordable hobby.

Below are two scarves that I crocheted. I used about one and a quarter ball of yarn for the green one. For the red scarves I used two balls of yarn at the same time, so it’s much thicker. I sewed the ends together to create an infinity scarf. For both I used a 10cm crochet hook.

Hand warmers. Hand warmers are great. I found one in a shop not too long ago and just fell in love with it. It also came with a cute knit pouch. These hand warmers are great if you have to spend a great deal outside (read: waiting for a train to arrive). After the first use, you’ll have to immerse it in hot water for about 10 minutes, and then let it cool before you can reuse it again.

There are plenty of other things that could keep you warm during winter time. What about knitted hats with cute pompoms attached to the top, or gloves / mittens that can keep you warm? Right now I’m working on another scarf. This time I’m knitting one:

It’s supposed to be a Harry Potter related scarf (Gryffindor)! I’m really excited for it. I’m hoping I can finish it this year… the sooner I’m done, the sooner I get to wear it, haha. How are you planning to get through the cold?

Liefs,

Minkaos

Ps. My first blog entry ^^!
